Reduced Sugar Apple Pie (Yummy!)

This apple pie, you will notice, has a lot less sugar than most recipes call for. I spent many pie making sessions to find the lowest sugar I could add. This is th delicious result.

Ingredients
6 cups of sliced apples, any type
1/3 cup of regular sugar
1 tablespoon butter/margarine
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 9-inch pie crusts (can be store bought)

Method
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Mix sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg together.

In one of the pie crusts, arrange the sliced apples in layers. Between each layer sprinkle a bit of the sugar mixture.

When done with layering the apples and sugar, cut up the butter into pieces and dot on top.

Cover entire mixture with the second pie crust. Pierce crust randomly with a fork to let steam escape. I usually make little designs.

Bake for 10 minutes then reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Bake for 30 - 35 more minutes.

Notes
Good hot or cold.
Yummy served hot with ice cream.
Can be covered with foil and frozen for a week.
Tarter apples may need more sugar.

  3. It is super easy Sue B. I tend to use apples that have lingered too long in my 'fridge. Nothing wasted right?!
