Thrifty Tuesdays - DIY Beauty 2/22/2011

I am diverging from the norm here on Tuesday by not posting freebies but instead some ways to stay frugally fabuloso in the beauty department.

Let us start at the basics with a face mask.

Fruity Yogurt Mask
1 tbsp fruit (orange, strawberry, etc.)
1 tbsp plain yogurt

Squish the fruit until it is pulverized. Mix with yogurt. Gently apply the mixture to your face. Wait about five minutes then rinse off with warm water. Pat dry with towel.
Can mix up a batch and kept in 'fridge for up to one week.

Moving on to the all-important mositurizing.

Janna's Skin Cream
1 tbsp lecithin (liquid form, I use soy)
1/2 c distilled water
1/2 c oil (almond, olive, grape seed, I use olive)
2 drops of your favorite essential oil*

Mix everything together in a blender to whip into a nice cream. Put mixture into your favorite jar. Apply as needed. Keep in a cool place like your 'fridge so it stays fresh. Use within 3 months.

And, just so you are yummy fresh...

Natural Mouthwash
2.5 c mineral water
1 tsp anise seeds
1 tsp fresh mint leaves
1 tsp rosemary leaves

Bring all ingredients to boil. Remove from heat once boiled. Strain out leaves & seeds. Bottle and use as desired for mouthwash and/or gargle.

I hope these three easy recipes and methods help out. Remember, if you make your own beauty aids, you will be a little more green. Also, remember that home-made beauty has a much shorter lifespan as we aren't adding a ton of weird perservatives and chemicals. If anything looks or smells "odd" or "off", chuck it. Better to be safe than sorry!

*Consult an essential oils expert on what is best for you to use as many essential oils are volital.
