My Dirty Cooking Tricks
Anyone that has cooked regularly for at least one other person runs into the frustration of another's likes and dislikes.
Over the years I have learned how to be a sneaky cook. Hiding nutrition and disguising foods. Here are a few of my tricks.
Any strongly spiced, seasoned or flavored dish can usually hide some shredded spinach. Fresh or frozen - it doesn't matter.
I have become infamous for a few handfuls of spinach to chilli, marinara sauce, bolognese sauces, lasagna, tacos, burritos and so forth.
The rich flavors of the dish, unfortunately, cover the flavor of the spinach. So, no spinach flavor, all the nutrition.
If using canned spinach, remember the flavor is very intense. The texture is, well, slimey. Chilli is the only dish I have been able to successfully hide canned spinach in.
Another of my tricks is food coloring. Yes, in an effort to eat more holistically, adding food coloring may seem contrary. However, I have weighed the options and chosen the lesser of the two evils.
My family is served a bang-up breakfast on the weekends. And often as a mid-week meal.
What they don,t know is that no one has eaten a whole egg in years. And everyone loves my scrambled eggs.
I simply seperate the yokes to the compost. Then, two to three drops of yellow food coloring later - presto! Rich yellow scrambled eggs.
Still thinking about that yellow food coloring? Great! I used to use a few drops in my homemade chicken and turky pot pies when weaning my blended family off of factory made ones. Just be sure to lessen the amount of food coloring you use every few times. Before long you pot pies are naturally colored.
My final trick was to slowly introduce whole wheat flour. I recommend replacing 1/4 of a cup in a recipe each time you make something. Before long, it's all whole wheat.
So, these are a few of my tricks with my five picky eaters. What are yours?
In Search of...Pizza
I had the distinct displeasure of choking down, yet another, terrible pizza in PA.
To be honest, moving to PA was a culinary disaster. Not for lack of trying on my part! I have sampled wares from West Chester County, Adams County, Lancaster County, York County, Dauphin Count and Cumberland County.
So far my cullinary exploration of PA has been...disappointing. PA defies the basic rule of thumb: Eat where the locals do.
I want a yummy pizza. I want to support local businesses. I really do! But with everyone's crust so rubbery I could chew it for days as bubble gum. "Sauces" bear that repellant tin taste. Revealing it as a simple canned tomato sauce, sans seasoning. Do not even get me started about how lunchmeat is not Canadian Bacon. Finally, what is with the lazy allegance to disgusting canned mushrooms?
It does not matter what I order, how I order it or where I order. The pizza is over-priced and unfit for human consumption.
My most recent expedition to finding a decent pizza have included, from worst-est to worst-ish:
Jim & Nena's
Shakey Jakes Strombolli Pizza & Subs
Marcello's
Daddyo Pizza
All are found in and arund the city of York.
This said, PA has managed to perfect the earliest records of apple pie recipes (from England), the original 1885 CE milkshake and, so long as you don't order one outside of Philidelphia, the Philly Cheesesteak.
While these three things are yummy scrummy, they do not fill the void in my tummy for a good pizza.

A Childhood Memory & Recipe
Most warm and fuzzy childhood memories are condemmed to be only memories. But ones involving food and drink are able to be relived as often as we want.
Like most people, I have many childhood memories. A good one, in particular, is of my mother making me a "Chocolate Moo".
Now, there is no chocolate in it. But there is moo! And it is not an overly healthy drink. But the moo juice does help counter the other ingredient.
Chocolate Moo
Ingredients
8 oz milk (whole, skimmed, 2%)
8 oz cola or root beer
Whipped cream (optional)
Method
In two 12 oz glasses pour 4 oz of milk in each. Then carefully add 4 oz of cola in each glass of milk. Watch out! It will fizz up on you.
Optional: Add a dollop of whipped cream to top and serve with a straw.
Serves two.
Preparing Your Winter Garden
With fall right around the corner, now is the time to look around your home. Why give up fresh homegrown produce just because Jack Frost is around?
The first thing you need to do is find a dedicated area in your home. Even if space is tight you can do a little container garden on a shelf you put up.
Once you have found your indoor gardening space, the size of the space will determine what you can grow. For small spaces look at herbs. Larger spaces can allow for tomatoes and squashes. Just be sure to do your research on container gardening.
Figured out what to grow? Great! Get started on germinating your seeds. While the seeds are germinating, you can easily install your grow-light.
Before very long, even as snow blankets your garden outside, you will be making the most fabuloso dishes. All with fresh vegetables and herbs from your indoor garden.

In addition to this announcement, Rockstar also listened to the players and will be releasing an update today, Monday September 12, 2011, that will restore original settings for the Undead Overrun mode. This update is also supposed to fix the following glitching/cheating problems: Invincibility, invisibility, rapid fire and Undead Bait (see below about Undead Bait).
Tips/Thoughts/Warnings
I will give you a bit of a warning though. This last weekend several friends and I were playing and despite our blazing fast internet connections, the Rockstar servers had us buffered down to barely a trickle and almost no connection. In addition, approximately every 15 minutes one of us would get dropped from the game.
Everyone restarting their modems did managed to make this situation better. For about 30 minutes.
Because of this, we gave up trying to play any mode but Free Roam together. Who wants to be dropped in the middle of something competitive?
Now for dealing with those little jerks that just can't play the game without exploiting glitches or flat out cheating, the update that restores Undead settings will help clear this.
But, until then, if you run across some jerk that is invincible in Undead mode, be aware there is a way to give him some swift justice: Grab some Undead Bait then hit him/her with it about four times. This will cause the little cheater's game console, either Xbox 360 or PS3 to freeze. Please do not do this to random people/anyone else. You will then instantly become the jerk and we will all hate you as well as the amount of reports Rockstar will get about you will sail through the roof.

Text & Win 9/7/2011
There are a couple of Text and Win contests going on right now. Here are the primo ones in my opinion. The rest are for cruises or cars. Things truly frugal people avoid as they are all going to cost a ton of cash in taxes alone plus extras such as accommodation, travel, etc.
How To
Simply enter the code provide and send to the number provided. You will receive a confirmation text back. Then, if you win, you will be sent a text notifying you.
Recommendations
1. Add an alert of some kind to let you know when the contests have ended so you aren't sending needless texts.
2. If you don't have a data plan (unlimited texts) the do not enter these via text. Look for the alternate entry method.
